Oxford man arrested with drug paraphernalia after K-9 alerts on vehicle on U.S. 301

Dalton Rickett

An Oxford man was arrested with drug paraphernalia early Thursday morning after a K-9 alerted on his vehicle during a traffic stop on U.S. 301.

Dalton Shayne Rickett, 26, had been at the wheel of a blue Saturn Vue utility vehicle at about 1 a.m. when he was pulled over for having an expired registration. A K-9 unit was summoned to the scene and the dog alerted on the vehicle, indicating the likely presence of drugs, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

A search of a backpack turned up a glass smoking pipe with the residue of methamphetamine.

He was arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $1,000 bond.

Rickett previously had been arrested Easter morning when he was spotted riding a bicycle without lights on U.S. 301.
