Paint-roll-tossing, possession-smashing Ocala man arrested on battery charge

Tavaughn Staubyn Vernon Wright

An Ocala man who became so irate over noise in his kitchen that he threw a paint-roller at a 66-year-old woman was arrested Thursday morning.

When Marion County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the house on SW 102nd Lane Rd., a witness told them the woman was struck in her right eye by the paint-roller. The witness also said that 26-year-old Tavaughn Staubyn Vernon Wright then started taking his own belongings out of his bedroom and smashing them with a hammer.

The woman confirmed being hit in her right eye and complained of irritation and pain, so deputies called EMS to come evaluate her injury. She also said that “she couldn’t live looking over her shoulder.”

Deputies then made contact with Wright, who was “uncooperative” and denied throwing anything at the woman. He did admit to throwing things into the living room of the home, but said those smashed items belonged to him.

Wright was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with battery on a person 65 or older. He was being held on $2,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom on Oct. 16 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charge

Wright also was arrested on a domestic battery charge on March 22, 2014 and held at the Marion County Jail until the following day when he was released on $500 bond. But that case was closed the following month when the charge was “dropped/abandoned.”
