To the Editor:
I recently visited a friend at The Villages Regional Hospital. He had been taken to the hospital by 911 personnel per their protocol after he sustained a fall. I located him in the ED in a triage room. The staff attending him left the room with their computer unsecured and his personal information (SSN and DOB) laying out in the open by the computer. When I mentioned it to the nurse, he just gathered the paper with the info on it and blew it off as if I hadn’t said anything.
With the high incidence of ID theft and fraud in Florida, I would have assumed that TVRH would have taken better care of this information and had a secure computer. It was an eye opening disappointment.
