Police car burglarized, another car stolen and gun still missing from car in Bison Valley

A police car was burglarized, another car was stolen and a gun stolen from a car is still missing after an incident in Bison Valley on County Road 101.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday to the family community in The Villages.

A marked patrol car from the Lady Lake Police Department was parked at the home of an off-duty officer. A window of the patrol car had been broken and the thief took a fingerprint scanner and a seat organizer that included a printer.

The officer had secured his service weapon and laptop computer in his home, said Lady Lake Police Captain Jason Brough.

The items taken from the police car were recovered in a second car that was stolen in Bison Valley and later found abandoned.

A gun stolen from the second vehicle has not been recovered.

Bison Valley is touted for its proximity to The Villages Charter School. Sales agents like to boast that children can walk to school.
