An analysis of soil borings taken recently at the Morse Boulevard bridge embankment won’t be available for about two more weeks.
The Project Wide Advisory Committee on Monday morning received an update on a study being conducted at the bridge embankment at Lake Sumter.
The District’s engineering firm, Kimley-Horn & Associates, is about two and a half months into a six-month project, said engineer Richard Busche.
“I can’t speculate on what we would recommend or what we might find,” Busche said.
A third party, PSI Orlando, is preparing the analysis of the soil borings.
The study was called for after a significant “event” occurred more than two years ago at the northeast corner of the island, said District officials. In that event, trees fell down into a crevasse. It could have been a sinkhole, District officials said.
“The ‘luck’ of Florida weather only lasts so long,” said District Manager Janet Tutt as she warned against inaction on the issue.
PWAC Chairman Peter Moeller said the committee is interested in guarding the safety and assets of the residents.
