A Marion County sheriff’s deputy arrested a Wildwood man Sunday morning who was driving with a permanently revoked license.
After running a computer check on the license tag of a red Ford F-150, the deputy stopped the pickup in the 16900 block of S U.S. 301 and spoke with the vehicle’s driver, 62-year-old James Leander Ellis. The deputy confirmed that Ellis matched the description of the owner of the truck and asked him for his driver’s license.
Ellis told the deputy that he knew his license was suspended and instead gave him his Florida identification card. The deputy confirmed his identity a second time and then ran a criminal background check, which revealed that Ellis’ license was permanently revoked on April 4, 2013 for four or more convictions for driving under the influence, a sheriff’s office report states.
Ellis was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was released Sunday night on $500 bond.
