St. Alban’s Anglican Church telling story of Christmas through special service

St. Alban’s Anglican Church in Lady Lake is planning a traditional service of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.

Father Greg Koon, who serves as the priest at St. Alban’s Anglican Church in Lady Lake, says anyone who would like to attend the Dec. 23 traditional service of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is welcome to do so.

The service, which will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 23, tells the Christmas story through the reading of nine lessons. Following each lesson, the congregation is invited to sing a Christmas carol selected to accompany it. Carols for the non-denominational service will be led by a professional organist.

“All are welcome to this service,” said Father Greg Koon, the priest at St. Alban’s. “This service elevates the Christ in Christmas.”

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is the Christmas Eve service held at King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, England. It was introduced in 1918 to bring a more imaginative approach to worship and was first broadcast in 1928.

Today, the service is broadcast to millions of people around the world. And the service at St. Alban’s will give attendees an opportunity to participate in this Christmas tradition.

St. Alban’s Anglican Church formed here in 2006. It has been in its current location at 625 W. Lady Lake Boulevard, next to American Legion Post 347 near the intersection of County Road 466 and Rolling Acres Road, for four years. To contact the church, call (352) 205-8567.
