Summerfield man barricades himself in home, fatally wounds armed intruder

A Summerfield man who barricaded himself in his home, fatally wounded an armed intruder Monday night.

An intruder armed with a handgun entered the home at 10420 SE 158th Place in the Sunset Harbor area and injured the homeowner’s dog, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim told deputies he barricaded himself in a room in the house to get away from the intruder who attempted to forcefully enter the room. He then shot the intruder who then fled. Soon after the home invasion, the suspect was dropped off by unknown persons outside the Ocala Health Summerfield Emergency Room, where he was later pronounced dead.

MCSO Major Crimes detectives are in the preliminary stages of this investigation and are not releasing the identities of those involved at this time due to next of kin notification.
