Summerfield woman claims acquaintance absconded with SSI card

A Summerfield woman called a Marion County sheriff’s deputy Thursday claiming to be the victim of fraud.

The 57-year-old woman, who lives in the 14500 block of SE 86th Ct., told the deputy that she believes an acquaintance took her Supplemental Security Income card and withdrew money from her account. She said she had given the man permission to use the card in the past to pay “house bills,” a sheriff’s office report states.

The woman told the deputy that her first SSI card went missing but she could not provide any dates of when the incident allegedly took place. The woman said she received a replacement card and couldn’t find it Thursday, so she believes the man took it prior to leaving her residence, the report says.

The deputy provided the woman with a case number and asked her to call the sheriff’s office if further information becomes available.
