Talk of school shooting at Legacy Elementary spurs call to sheriff’s office

A Legacy Elementary School official contacted the Marion County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday after a student was overheard making comments about a school shooting.

The official told a deputy via telephone that a student overheard talk of other students bringing a gun to school to shoot students. The deputy also was told that the student who heard the comments didn’t see any of the other students in possession of a firearm or weapon, a Marion County Sheriff’s report states.

The deputy instructed the school official to call back if she received any other pertinent information. The information was then forwarded to the Southeast district commander, a lieutenant, two sergeants and the school resource officer at Legacy Elementary, which is located at 8496 Juniper Rd. in Ocala.
