To the Editor:
I have lived here for three years and on two occasions I have been admitted to The Villages Regional Hospital. In October 2016 I was admitted in a timely fashion via the Emergency Room to the hospital while I awaited orthopedic emergency surgery. It was completed in a timely fashion and with excellent results. Fortunately, The Villages Regional also has The Villages Rehabilitation Hospital for acute rehabilitation services within its walls.
Following surgery I went to the Rehab Hospital. In both cases I was afforded excellent care and great outcomes.Â
I cannot tell you the dignity I was treated with and the caring of all providers from the surgeon to the daily cleaning person.Â
The hospital rooms were clean and the services first rate all the way down the line.Â
In February 2018 I was in for out-patient services with an over night stay. This visit, too, was spot-on for timeliness and care. I went to the cardiac section for a procedure and an overnight recovery.Â
As for me I am a retired physician who has been on the board of directors for a similar-sized hospital and I have participated in quality control activities at several hospital our of state and I can with confidence and as a knowledgable person who can attest to the quality of care at TVRH. My wife, a registered nurse also with quality review career activities was part of the assessment of my care.Â
Oh! By the way, I never identified myself as a physician until I was being discharged, because I wanted the best care and got it with no extras for being part of the fraternity.
For the naysayers, I am sorry but perhaps their expectations for immediacy of care and service are out flanked by those who are more seriously or critically ill who will get and deserve priority care. As Pogo once said, “We are all equal but some are more equal than others” and this feeling is pervasive in so many health care situations.  Â
Thank you TRVH and the Villages Rehab Hospital for my care and more importantly for the caring I received from all my caregivers.
