The Villages’ Italian, German parades to consolidate into single ‘Heritage Parade’

The Italian and German parades which have taken place in October for the past five years in Spanish Springs Town Square will be consolidated into a single “Heritage Parade.”

Applications for the event, set for the afternoon of Oct. 16, are available at this link.

The deadline for applications to be a part of the parade is Sept. 14.

Parades in The Villages  previously were put on by The Villages Entertainment Department, which announced in 2012 that parades would be discontinued. That set off a furor among Villages groups that enjoyed taking part in the parades. Villagers appealed to the Amenity Authority Committee and a deal was struck to stage an Irish parade in March and the Italian and German parades in October in Spanish Springs.

The Resident Parade Committee was formed and the parades became an all-volunteer event.

A spokesman for the Resident Parade Committee said details for the new Heritage Parade are still in the works but said the committee is hopeful the residents will respond favorably.
