I drive my golf cart everywhere in The Villages, night or day, rain or shine.
When it is raining at night it is difficult to see the path in some areas especially where there is poor lighting. It would be cheaper to put in lines and reflectors rather than putting in new lights. Accidents will happen especially since there are tens of thousands of carts on the paths just as there are tens of thousands of cars on the road.
Anything that can be done for safety’s sake will help. We cannot stop all accidents since you can’t fix stupid but we can try. The money the CDD spent on an engineering survey could have been used for the striping. Why did we need a survey? We are only painting lines not building the Taj Mahal or an extension bridge. I understand the firm that did the survey is the same one that did the original survey. Did we expect them to say they were wrong the first time?
I understand that the majority of the villagers want the stripes and reflectors. Why aren’t the CDD members going along with the wishes of those who put them in office instead of thrusting their own opinions on us? Maybe in the future we should be looking into the qualifications, opinions and backgrounds of the CDD members for whom we are voting the same as we do for federal, state and county officials. These are the people who effect our way of life and spend our money so we should vote for the ones who will respect our wishes.
