Vehicle’s tire stuck in possible sinkhole at parking lot of Villages’ restaurant

A vehicle’s tire was stuck Wednesday evening in a possible sinkhole in the parking lot of a restaurant in The Villages.

First responders were called at about 4:30 p.m. to the parking lot of Carrabba’s Italian Grill at Rolling Acres Plaza where the front wheel of a vehicle sank into a hole.

A car’s tire was caught in a hole Wednesday night at Carrabba’s Italian Grill.

It was not immediately clear whether the tire went down into a collapsed drain pipe or a sinkhole.

The restaurant was not evacuated, but emergency personnel were attempting to find diners whose vehicles were parked near the hole. They were encouraged to move their cars so emergency personnel could investigate what had caused the hole.

By later Wednesday night, the car had been removed and the process of filling in the sinkhole began.
Emergency responders were at the scene Wednesday evening.

Collapsed drain pipes have been a major concern this year in The Villages. Some Village of Winifred residents were forced to move out of their homes after a storm drain pipe collapsed after work by a cleaning crew. Residents of McLawren Terrace in the Village of Calumet Grove have viewed their storm drains with suspicion since a series of sinkholes opened.
