A Village of Hadley couple’s son was arrested on a drunk driving charge after he was found staggering in a parking lot.
An off-duty Sumter County sheriff’s deputy spotted 47-year-old John Joseph Rimmer, who lives with his parents at 625 Plaintain Path, at 12:21 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Lowe’s Home Improvement store at Trailwinds Village on County Road 466A in Wildwood. He almost fell to the ground while trying to exit his vehicle.
Another deputy arrived on the scene and made contact with Rimmer, who was sitting in the driver’s seat of a black Chevrolet Avalanche pickup bearing a New Jersey license plate. The vehicle was running, but Rimmer turned off the engine as the deputy approached the truck, according to an arrest report. It appeared Rimmer had been drinking.
He failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .150 and .167 blood alcohol.
A nearly empty 750ml bottle of Skol vodka was discovered in a zippered back pack found in the truck, as well as an empty 50ml bottle of Smirnoff vodka in the truck’s center console.
Rimmer was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was released after posting $1,000 bond.
