A Village of Rio Ponderosa woman has been sentenced in a case in which she had been accused of kicking a law enforcement officer.
Sumter County sheriff’s deputies had been called July 22 to the home of 65-year-old Mary Margaret Boland at 220 Estrada Place. They had been alerted to a situation by her longtime boyfriend.
When deputies found Boland in a back bedroom, she was “emotionally upset and became erratic” when she realized why they were there. She was told she needed to go with EMS personnel, but the native New Yorker responded, “You’ll have to take me by force.” When they attempted to escort her from the room, she turned and kicked a deputy in the upper right thigh area. Boland was then told she was being arrested for battery on a law enforcement officer.
“Good, I would rather go to jail anyways,” she responded.
She then said she was sorry and “was under distress dealing with the death of her mother that occurred one year ago.”
Last week in Sumter County Court, Boland pleaded no contest to a charge of resisting. She was placed on probation for one year.
