Village of Santiago man back behind bars after violating his probation

David Donofrio

A resident of the Village of Santiago found himself back behind bars last week after violating his probation.

David C. Donofrio, 48, who lives with is parents at 2714 Castillo Drive, had been sentenced in August in Lake County Court to two years probation. He was taken into custody this past Thursday and booked without bond on a warrant charging him with violating his probation.

He had been sentenced to probation in connection with an Aug. 25, 2017 arrest by Lake County sheriff’s deputies after a traffic stop on U.S. Hwy. 441. A K-9 alerted on Donofrio’s vehicle and a search turned up drug paraphernalia, cocaine, methamphetamine, Alprazolam and Hydrocodone.

While Donofrio was being held at the Lake County Jail in September 2017, he attacked a guard, stole a set of keys and attempted to escape from the medical pod where he was being held. He had to be tasered by another guard. He was charged with attempted escape. The case was later dismissed after a private attorney was hired on Donofrio’s behalf.

Donofrio had been arrested earlier that year after allegedly breaking a window in an apartment complex on his way home from Bikefest in Leesburg.
