Village of Tamarind Grove man jailed after skipping court date on drug charges

Reginald Odell Kincer

A 73-year-old Village of Tamarind Grove man was jailed Tuesday after skipping a court date at which he was scheduled to answer to drug charges.

Reginald Odell Kincer was released on $16,000 bond after being booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on three counts of failure to appear.

He originally had been arrested in September at Laurel Manor Recreation Center.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies had been dispatched to the recreation center to investigate a report of a suspicious person in the parking lot. Deputies spotted a car with the engine running and a door open. When deputies approached the car, a strong odor of marijuana was detected.

Kincer, who was at the wheel, reached into a satchel around his shoulder and pulled out a cylindrical container that held a green leafy substance later determined to be marijuana. Kincer claimed he was able to possess marijuana under “Indian law.”

A search of Kincer’s vehicle turned up five more balls of marijuana along with three pipes.

Kincer was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center and during the booking process, cocaine was found in a plastic bag in his wallet.

He was arrested on charges of possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug equipment.
