Village of Winifred residents being put up at local hotel during work on street

Village of Winifred residents are being put up at a local hotel during the disruption of their lives while work takes place on their street.

Rainey Construction on Thursday began the repair work on a stormwater drain pipe that failed and caused two large holes and a sunken area in a resident’s front yard. The holes in the Village of Winifred opened up late last month in the front yard of a Designer home owned by Carol Thomas at 733 Winifred Way following a large-scale cleaning of the storm drains in the neighborhood.

Winifred Way was being dug up Friday.

The work has interrupted water and sanitary sewer service for residents on Winifred Way.

Rainey Construction is acting as a contractor for Sumter County, which owns the road and the sewer system.

Residents inconvenienced by the work are being put up at the Hampton Inn & Suites on County Road 466. The county is reportedly picking up the tab.

Workers were on site Friday at Winifred Way.

Community Development District 5 Supervisor Chuck Wildzunas, a resident of the Village of Winifred, said he was pleased with the cooperation with Sumter County. He praised District Manager Richard Baier, a former Sumter County official, for facilitating the cooperation.
