A Villager cursed at a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy during his arrest following a night of drinking at City Fire at Lake Sumter Landing.
Arthur Glenn Cook, 75, of the Village of Osceola Hills at Lake Deaton, had been driving a red Kia Soul at 10:24 p.m. Tuesday when he ran a stop sign on Old Mill Run, according to an arrest report from the sheriff’s office.
During a traffic stop, it appeared Cook had been drinking, and he handed the deputy his Visa card when he was asked for his driver’s license.
Cook struggled through field sobriety exercises and cursed at the deputy. He later provided breath samples that registered .133 and .127 blood alcohol content. He admitted to consuming “four to five alcoholic beverages at City Fire prior to driving,” according to the arrest report.
During the ride to the Sumter County Detention Center, Cook repeatedly said to the deputy, “I hope you’re proud of yourself.”
He also offered law enforcement advice to the deputy.
“You know what I did when I pulled over a drunk guy while I was in the military? I drove him home,” Cook said.
He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on a charge of driving under the influence. He was released after posting $1,000 bond.
