Villagers put hands over hearts during national anthem at local restaurant

To the Editor:

Everyone is free to express themselves and some people kneel as a sign of dissent. OK, that is their opinion, but why be disrespectful during our national anthem? Do those protesting on a knee not understand how that right was gained and who did it? Did they intend to disrespect them too?
Other citizens have rights of expression, too. Today at Gator’s Dockside in Brownwood, several NFL games were about to start and the press was lined up in front of the players who took a knee. The volume for the Bronco game was turned up and as the national anthem played, I and several others stood with our hands over their hearts. We were quickly joined by more and after the last note, a loud chant began; “USA, USA, USA”. It seems that others have opinions too and are willing to express them. Feel free to join in.
