The Quilting Guild of The Villages is collecting handmade quilts to send to those in need in the Panhandle area. The local organization is trying to help a Facebook group called “Quilt Blessings For the Panhandle.”
The three women who started the page and the mission are originally from Panama City. They are trying to collect 2,000 handmade quilts to take back to the Panama City area for people who are living in tents and struggling to get their lives back together following Hurricane Michael.
The area is in desperate need of many things and these women want to show that the people there haven’t been forgotten by wrapping them in the love of handmade quilts. They are accepting all sizes, but twin and queen are needed the most.
The Guild made a delivery of 124 quilts this past Sunday and is continuing to collect for a second delivery on Dec. 2. If you or someone you know is a quilter and would like to help, quilts can be dropped off at A Quilting Palette at 732 S. U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lady Lake through Dec. 1 for the next drop and until Jan. 24 for the last delivery.
