Motorcycles collide leaving one rider dead and another rider seriously injured

Two motorcycles collided leaving one rider dead and another rider seriously injured.

The crash occurred at 11:50 p.m. Saturday on SE 100th Avenue in Belleview.

A 55-year-old Summerfield man was riding a motorcycle and was slowing down when he was rear-ended by a motorcycle ridden by a 63-year-old Weirsdale man, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. Both motorcycles overturned as a result of the collision.

The Weirsdale man was thrown from his motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue.

The Summerfield motorcyclist was seriously injured and transported to HCA Ocala Hospital for treatment.

Neither of the men had been wearing helmets, the report noted.
