Fifty World War II veterans will be honored on the Villages Honor Flight to Washington D.C. this Sunday.
Included are 31 area residents from The Villages, Lady Lake, Oxford and Fruitland Park. These individuals, who served around the world during the war, served with distinction and honor, and will be appropriately recognized and thanked for their sacrifices and service to America.
“The sacrifices made by these and the other vets of World War II during that most perilous period of world history cannot be overstated. They literally saved the world. We are honored that we can provide this trip for them and thank them for their valiant and unselfish service,” said Mark Erdrich, Flight Director
The community is invited to honor these World War II veteran heroes when they return from this one-day trip at a “Welcome Home Ceremony.”
This free event, open to the public, is held at American Legion Post 347 on County Road 466 and Rolling Acres Road in Lady Lake.
Live entertainment which precedes their return begins at 9:30 p.m., and the buses transporting them from the airport are schedule to arrive about 10:30 p.m.. Attendees are asked to bring a chair, an American flag and a friend to this rain or shine event.
