A school resource officer at an Ocala elementary school was called Thursday after a student exposed himself to his classmates as they played a popular children’s game.
The principal of Marion Oaks Elementary School, located at 280 Marion Oaks Trl., contacted the school resource officer and reported the incident, which took place in the facility’s cafeteria. The officer, who is a Marion County sheriff’s deputy, then joined with the principal in speaking with several students who confirmed that the student exposed himself.
One witness said he believed the boy was trying to be “funny.” Another said the incident was unsolicited and the boy said “look” before exposing himself. And a third witness said several students were playing Rock Paper Scissors when she observed the boy “pull his pants down and expose himself,” a sheriff’s office report states.
The student was hesitant to speak with the principal and the deputy about the incident but did admit to exposing himself. He said that no one had asked to see his “private parts” and he was “attempting to do it as a joke,” the report says.
The boy’s parents were contacted and the deputy called the Department of Children and Families, which declined to take a report.
