Kitchen fire forces evacuation and closure of popular area restaurant

A highly popular Leesburg restaurant was damaged early Saturday night when a fire broke out in its kitchen.

Firefighters from Leesburg and Fruitland Park responded to the Ramshackle Café early Saturday night after a kitchen fire broke out in the popular eatery.

Firefighters from Leesburg and Fruitland Park scrambled to Ramshackle Café, located at 1317 N 14th St., shortly before 7:30 p.m. The small crowd that was dining at the eatery had been evacuated into the parking lot and members of the wait staff were hustling about to settle their tabs.

One staff member labeled the blaze as a grease fire. After the flames were extinguished, firefighters ventilated the building to remove smoke. The restaurant was closed on Sunday and it’s unclear when it will reopen.
