Refrigerator explodes in Villages home, couple forced to move in with friends

A refrigerator exploded in a Village of Fernandina kitchen this weekend causing extensive damage to the Designer home.

The couple that owns the home in the 1200 block of Thunderbird Way was reportedly out with friends when the explosion occurred.

The home was built in 2013 and purchased in 2014 by David and Sandra Hess.

Damage was not limited to the kitchen.

The explosion caused damage to the ceiling, foyer and other areas of the home.

The home is not livable and David and Sandra Hess had been staying with friends in The Villages. They have since obtained a rental near their home.
