Wild turkeys can be spotted here in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has used a web-based mapping application to survey biologists’ and other natural resource professionals’ knowledge of wild turkey distribution.

Wild turkeys are occasionally spotted here in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown.

This wild turkey was spotted running next to the multi-modal path on County Road 466.

Results of the survey accounted for about 65 percent of the state, necessitating extrapolation of the survey results to other areas based on habitat and proximity to known locations.

The resulting dataset has been made available for viewing as a web-based, interactive map of predicted wild turkey occupancy.

The FWC uses this information, in conjunction with habitat suitability data, to help identify and direct future wild turkey management efforts.
