Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board grants special exception to clear way for self-storage buildings

The Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board Tuesday granted a special exception so church buildings and a home can be torn down and replaced by self-storage buildings on the north side of State Road 44 about a half mile east of Buena Vista Boulevard.

Special Magistrate Archie O. Lowry Jr. granted the exception subject to approval by the Wildwood City Commission. A special exception allows a land use that otherwise would not be permitted in the zoning category.

The church buildings and home are owned by Potter’s House International Ministries, which sought the zoning change.

Lowry also recommended approval of a site plan for the storage facility, which will include a 31,350-square-foot, three-story building and four single-story buildings of 17,325 square feet, 8,100 square feet, 6,000 square feet and 2,375 square feet. Total floor area will be about 121,350 square feet.

Most of the units will be climate-controlled, said David Springstead of Springstead Engineering of Leesburg, who represented the owner.

He said a landscape buffer will screen the buildings from the road.

Lowry also recommended commercial highway zoning for a 14-acre parcel at county roads 470 and 501, east of the planned Villages of Southern Oaks. He also recommended zoning to allow conversion of a house to an office on County Road 466A near Old Wire Road.
