William F. Brophy

William F. Brophy, 95, of Spruce Creek South, Summerfield, FL, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018. Born in Woburn, MA he was the son of the late Lawrence M. and Agnes (Gately) Brophy.

William was a Navy veteran of World War II and served his country with distinction. He was in construction for most of his life and was a Building Commissioner for the City of Lowell for 23 years. He was a member of the Massachusetts Building Inspectors and Commissioners Association. He was a resident of Lowell for many years residing on Miriam Lane. He and his wife Mildred moved to the Top of the World Community in Ocala, FL in 1989 and to Spruce Creek South in 1994. He was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Summerfield, FL.

Besides his parents, William was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mildred R (Carroll) Brophy in 2010, his brother John and sister, Rosemary Brophy. He leaves his daughter, Jo Ann L. Brophy of Summerfield; son, Lawrence M. Brophy II and his wife Catherine; (4) grandchildren, Anne Golding, Colleen Foss, Meghan Posey, Katie Orr and 8 great grandchildren; Cole Aidan and Parker Golding, Kayleigh, Kelsey, Garrett and Logan Foss and Jaxon Posey and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive relatives and friends at a visitation to be held at the Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd., The Villages on Wednesday, Sept. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Sept. 13 at St. Mark the Evangelist Church beginning 10 a.m. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL on Friday.
