Woman arrested with heroin after suspicious vehicle spotted at internet cafe

Desiree Ann Kaye

A 32-year-old Summerfied woman was arrested with drugs after a suspicious vehicle was spotted at an internet cafe on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lady Lake.

A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy spotted a red Hyundai with a hand-drawn “lost tag” sign where the license plate should be on the vehicle. As the deputy made a U-turn back to check out the vehicle, three people got out of the car in the parking lot of Flip Flops internet cafe. The deputy observed the vehicle’s steering column had been stripped.

A K-9 unit arrived on the scene and the dog alerted on the vehicle. A search of the vehicle turned up a Tiger Balm glass jar that contained two plastic bags containing heroin, a glass pipe with white residue and a pill.

Desiree Ann Kaye was taken into custody on charges of possession of heroin, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug equipment. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $5,500 bond.

Kaye was arrested last year in an attempted shoe theft at Bealls. She was arrested along with a Village of Glenbrook man in 2016 in the parking lot of a bank in The Villages. Earlier that same year, she was arrested after attempting to steal a pair of shoes from Kohl’s in Lady Lake.
