It’s 1940 and World War II looks bad for the Allies.
The British Propaganda Unit does its best to turn the current disaster at Dunkirk into a heroic and heart-wrenching event where twin sisters commandeer their father’s small boat to help in the evacuation.
They assign their best writer Catrin Cole (Gemma Arterton) to write the script. Producing a believable film in a dilapidated building while under the German air raid “The Blitz: is a major challenge. Older Shakespearean actor Ambrose Hilliard (Bill Nighy) pitches in to orchestrate the few male actors available.
Catrin still finds time to eke out a modicum of love interest with fellow writer Tom Buckley (Sam Claflin). Acting is superb and the wartime London rubble is realistic.
Those who can remember any of the World War II events will like this film. Those who cannot will find this film it a somewhat dull love story. “Their Finest” is currently playing at the Rialto Theater in The Villages.
