Villager’s son arrested after attempting to cash check stolen from neighbor lady

Christopher Munday

A Villager’s son was arrested after attempting to cash a check stolen from his neighbor lady.

Christopher Munday, 47, who lives with his mother at 1805 Kane Place in the Village of St. Charles, was arrested Tuesday morning on charges of fraud and theft.

Earlier in the year, four checks had disappeared from the neighbor lady’s checkbook after Munday performed some miscellaneous painting work for her at her home, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Munday texted a female acquaintance and asked her if she would be willing to cash a $400 check for him. He picked up the woman and her boyfriend on June 3 at the Save A Lot store in Wildwood and they went to the Citizens First Bank location at Pinellas Plaza. The woman was unsuccessful in cashing the check because she did not have two forms of identification. They went to the Citizens First Bank location at Colony Plaza, but the woman was again unsuccessful in cashing the check.

When the woman was contacted by law enforcement, she provided screenshots of Munday’s text messages and a photo of him. The boyfriend provided a description of Munday’s vehicle and its license plate number.

Munday was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $2,500 bond.
