Event in The Villages to honor victims of mass shooting in Orlando

An event Monday night in The Villages will honor the victims of a mass shooting early Sunday morning at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando.

As of this morning, 49 people are reported dead as a result of the incident and many more wounded.

“Our sisters and brothers in Orlando remain in our prayers and we stand in complete solidarity with our LGBT family in the wake of this horrendous attack on our community,” the Villages Rainbow Family & Friends said in a statement issued  Sunday afternoon.

The group is inviting Villagers and area residents to join them at 6 p.m. Monday in the breezeway at Bonifay Country Club. You do not need a Villages ID to attend the event.

“Our goal is to come together to share the grief, show our respects and to feel our collective strength. We will be collecting donations to be forwarded to Equality Florida’s GoFundMe campaign, to help raise funds for the victims and families of this horrific shooting,” the club’s statement said.

Those who are unable to attend, are asked to visit their GoFundMe donation page here.
