A pair of alleged shoplifters were arrested in separate incidents this past weekend at Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge.

Garrett Dale Thalgott, 27, of Oxford entered the store Saturday evening and took a drink from a cooler, according to an arrest record from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He then went to the jewelry area and did some browsing before taking some small batteries and concealing them in his hand behind the drink, the arrest report indicated. He was stopped by a loss prevention officer as he attempted to leave the store. A criminal history check showed that Thalgott had been convicted of theft on Oct. 28. He was booked on a charge of petit theft at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $1,000.

In the second incident, a 28-year-old Wildwood woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after she allegedly switched tags on four pairs of boy’s pants and proceeded through the self-checkout, according to an arrest report. The pants were “George” brand in different colors, with Hanes clearance stickers on them. Carla Elan Williams was taken into custody on a charge of shoplifting and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $500.
