A woman with a long criminal history in the state of New York was arrested Saturday after she allegedly attempted to steal golf balls and other items at Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages.
Ericka Naki Siplin, 42, of Sanford, entered the store at around 7 p.m. accompanied by another woman and three men, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
The group attempted to leave the store with golf balls, a comforter set, a blanket and a toy set. The items had a total value of $461.56.
Members of the group fled from store personnel. Siplin was arrested a short time later.
She is facing charges of grand theft and resisting recovery of property.
She was booked on $4,000 bond at the Sumter County Detention Center. A check of her record revealed seven prior theft convictions in New York.
