Community Watch has begun directing traffic from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at the busy intersection of the multimodal crossing and Colony Boulevard.
The stepped-up traffic control effort will continue indefinitely.
Three Community Watch personnel were on the scene Monday morning.
“With snowbirds coming back, we are going to see more traffic here,” said Edward Fink of Community Watch.
The Project Wide Advisory Committee (PWAC) unanimously voted Oct. 21 to put in a traffic signal to help alleviate congestion at the location. Traffic congestion at the point where the golf cart traffic meets automobile traffic has been an unwelcome byproduct of the popular Colony Cottage Recreation Center and Colony Plaza shopping center.
A road rage incident not far from that location last week led to the arrest of Thomas Regina, 63, of The Villages.
He has been charged with battery, burglary with battery and battery on a person 65 years or older.
The incident took place Oct. 22 on Morse Boulevard at Colony Boulevard.
Reports indicated Regina became enraged when another driver was taking too long to make a turn.
