The uniformity of speed bumps and rumble strips at tunnels is a topic getting the attention of the Project Wide Advisory Committee.

A member of a walking group from Colony Cottage Recreation Center told PWAC members in their Monday morning meeting that her group felt unsafe at the tunnel that crosses under County Road 466A near the rec center.

Up until now, the responsibility for putting in speed bumps at tunnels has been largely left up to the Central Development District boards. For instance, CDD 7 recently voted to put in a speed bump at the Havana tunnel.

But some wondered if there should be some universal policy for tunnels with regard to speed bumps and rumble strips.

“I think we are treading on new snow,” said PWAC Chairman Peter Moeller. “There is no place on the planet that has the type of traffic interaction we have between cars and golf carts.”
