BREWERS LOSE AND DODGERS WIN TIGHTENS TITLE RACE;
BUMS GET TO WITHIN HALF GAME OF TOP DOG BREW PACK

Cards 19 – Brewers 16
Rick Stenson’s 5 for 6 day lead the Cards, while Craig Dahlquiest, Ron Young and Larry Tuchscherer all had 4 hits in the Cards 32 hit attack supporting pitcher Dom Aiello.  Alan Jackson had a 5 for 5 day and Jim Creed and Tom Gvist added 3 hits each in the loss.

DodgerS 17 – Braves 8
Paul Justice had 4 hits while George Slack and Linwood Manning had 3 hits for the Dodgers and winning pitcher Bruce Forrester.  Dave Pope, Jim Morton, Bob Marano and Tom Guinan had 2 hits each for the loosing Braves.

Reds 28 – Nationals 15
Nate Leech hit for the cycle and added a walk while Bob Wyly had 4 hits to lead the Reds winning pitcher Paul Sorse.  Four other players had 3 hits each.  Ed Niles and Roy Warter each had 4 hits for the Nationals.

Mets 18 – Pirates 14
Clem Keleher led the Mets with a 5 for 5 day, while Ev Arnold had 4 hits.  Jim Roose had a Grand Slam for the Mets.  Winning pitcher was Gary Luck.  Rich Hopkins and Jack Sullivan paced the Pirates with 4 hits each and Marty Berger had an inside the park HR.

Rockies 27 – Royals 18
Tom Gilewski, Kirby Campanella, Frank Marchitelli, Ed Prichard and Brian Blake all had 4 hits for the Rockies in their 27 hit attack for winning pitcher Tom Gilewski.  Mike McCully paced the Royals with 5 hits including 2 triples.  Tom Curley, Steve White and Jim Greco had 3 hits each.

Padres 11 – Cubs 8
Lou Martarano had a 4 for 4 day and Dean Watson chipped in with 3 hits to lead the Padres to victory in support of Duane Miller.  Grant Barthels had 2 hits for the Cubs.

Phillies 15 – Giants 13
Al Mahar and Bill Cini were 3 for 3 and Jim Moyer (pitcher) pitched in with 3 hits to lead the Phillies to the win.  The Giants were led by Rick Fredieu with a 4 for 4 performance and 3 hits from Whitey Greb, Paul Noyes and Scott Marshall.  Scott also had a HR and 2 doubles.

Cubs 11 – Phillies 9 in a make up game from Sept. 6th.
Dave Hinkley was 3 for 3 with a HR, triple and 3 RBI’s.  Three other players had 2 hits in support of pitcher Roger Scott.  Jim Moyer paced the Phillies with 3 hits while 4 players had 2 hits each in the loss.
