Sandy Hawley grew up in Michigan.

And she remembers visiting the Country Store and the Honey Hut at a place called Brownwood.

Now that she’s all grown up and freshly retired from her teaching career, she has a chance to visit Brownwood again. Except, of course, that this Brownwood is in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown.

She and her husband Chuck and their dog Belle were visiting Brownwood Paddock Square Monday evening.

They just bought a house in the Village of Pinellas.

While some at Brownwood that evening found the wind a bit brisk, Sandy and Chuck thought it was downright balmy having recently relocated from Michigan.

“It’s really something else to be down here and see so many things reminiscent of Brownwood up in Michigan,” Sandy said.

The Morse family once operated Brownwood in Central Lake, Mich. Many of the scenes of that era have been replicated in and around Brownwood Paddock Square.

She and her husband said they plan to hang onto their house in Michigan.
