Rick and Debby Ahaus of the Village of Gilchrist stopped just to browse Saturday afternoon at the 16th Annual Artists’ Showcase at Savannah Center.

But it didn’t take long before they found themselves buying.

They couldn’t resist a portrait of a lion called “Out of Africa,” created by Judi Roach of the Village of Santo Domingo.

She hasn’t been to Africa. But her pieces, including one showing the penetrating gaze of a gorilla, wouldn’t make you think so.

“It’s on my bucket list to go there,” she said.

It was the first Villages Art League show for artist Martha King, also of the Village of Santo Domingo.

“This morning I was saying to myself, ‘I am never going to do this again,” she said, detailing the struggle of packing up her work and all of the pre-show jitters.

But she ended up having a great day at the show.

“Now I am saying, I can’t wait to do this again,” she said.
