The Villages Regional Hospital Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center hosted an open house Wednesday morning to give tours of their newly christened facility. The center, which officially opened its doors for business on December 2, took around three months to complete and houses four treatment rooms and two hyperbaric chambers.

Jeff Rockett, the program director at the new facility, previously led the Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center at Leesburg Regional Medical Center, and indicated that demand was the impetus behind the new facility. “We noticed that around 45 to 50% of the volume at LRMC was coming from The Villages and we knew that Villagers would want something golf cart accessible, in their backyard,” said Rockett of the facility.

Hyperbaric treatments normally last around two hours a day, five days a week, for eight weeks, so the trip posed an inconvenience to some Villagers trying to receive the best medical treatment possible. “[Hyperbaric chambers] provide the opportunity to treat patients with the most advanced technology available,” said Rockett.

The facility boasts five staff members and three physicians, with room for at least five to seven physicians when demand calls for it. Up to 30 patients a day can be treated, and the center has already seen nearly a couple dozen patients walk through its doors.

Dr. Martin Schnell, the Medical Director of the Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center, indicated that the facility’s main goal is to provide quality service. Schnell indicated that the hospital and staff wanted to ensure that before opening its doors, the services offered were at a level consistent with what the Villages Regional Hospital offers at all of its facilities. Now, the foundation has been laid and the facility is ready to offer the highest level of service possible to patients.
