A 66-year-old Tavares man was killed in an accident at 6:49 a.m. Saturday on State Road 19 at Dead River Road in Lake County.
A Tavares Fire Department vehicle driven by Alan Gagne, 42 of Leesburg was southbound on State Road 19, in the outside lane approaching Dead River Road. Gagne has been identified as a battalion chief with the fire department.
His truck collided with a bicycle ridden by Earl Dudley who apparently failed to yield the right of way to Gagne’s vehicle, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The left, front of Gagne’s truck struck the right side of Dudley’s bicycle. Gagne’s truck came to rest in the southbound lane near the west shoulder facing south. The bicycle came to rest on top of the concrete median while Dudley was thrown from the bicycle.
The crash remains under investigation.
