Dave Stusse Memorial Tournament
The second seeded Brewers became the first division two team to win the Dave Stusse Memorial Tournament. Dave Stusse was a long time division two player who passed away during the past summer, and the division two board decided to name their seasonal tournament in his honor.
#2 Brewers knock off #1 Dodgers:
The Brewers out slug the Dodgers 14 to 3. The Dodgers had the early 2 to 1 lead after the first inning. But the Brewers picked up 4 runs in the second with the help of a lead off error and 5 straight hits. The Dodgers got a double play and kept the Brewers from scoring 5 after an intentional walk to Terry Operchuck. The Dodgers started out the bottom of the 2nd with 2 hits, but an out and 2 fielders choices put a zero on the board. Two errors allowed a run for the Brewers and an error allowed the Dodgers to get the run back in the bottom of the 3rd. Alan Jackson started the 4th with a triple and scored on a Don Mulneix single. Operchuck moved Mulneix into scoring position and scored on a sac fly by Calfee. Manager Tom Gvist ripped a double driving in a run and Vin Stebbins brought in the 4 run with a single. Winning pitcher Ken Semmel and the Brewers prevented the Dodgers from scoring the rest of the way. The Brewers add a run in the 5th, 2 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th.
For the Brewers, Don Mulneix had 4 hits, Terry Operchuck and Vin Stebbins chipped in with 3 hits each. Linwood Manning lead the Dodgers with 3 hits, while Len Griffing and Dave Oatley had 2 hits in the loosing effort.
