Head-on collision on CR466A leaves pair of drivers injured

A two-car head-on collision at 12:25 p.m. Friday on County Road 466A at Timber Top Road left two drivers seriously injured.

A woman was airlifted from the scene to Ocala Regional Medical Center. A man was ground-transported to the same hospital, according to the Fruitland Park Police Department which is handling the investigation.

The police department did not release the names of those injured in the accident.

A woman driving a Chrysler Town and Country minivan was westbound on CR466A when her vehicle strayed over the center line and into the path of an oncoming vehicle, about one-half mile east of Micro Racetrack Road.

Responding to the scene were Fruitland Park Fire Rescue assisted by Lake County Fire Rescue Engine 53 and the Villages Public Safety Department.

Tom McLean of the Village of Sanibel was driving on County Road 466A and witnessed the accident.  He arrived on the scene before emergency personnel and tried to comfort the injured female driver who was trapped in the car.

“I just tried to talk to her and tell her she would be OK,” McLean said.

The woman was extricated from the car by emergency personnel. A Lake County sheriff’s deputy was stationed at the intersection of County 466A and Micro Racetrack Road, directing traffic away from the crash site.

Fruitland Park Fire Rescue was on the scene as a helicopter prepared to transport the female driver.
