Nationally known watercolor artist Karlyn Holman has been teaching classes in The Villages for a decade.

She enjoys spending time in Florida and away from the snow and cold of Washburn, Wis.

And Villagers apparently love seeing and learning from her each winter.

Her workshop this week being offered through the Lifelong Learning College is completely sold out.

Villager Beverly Hennessy has coordinated the classes at the  workshop on Del Mar Avenue in Spanish Spring Town Square.

“Karlyn has been popular here for a long time,” Hennessy said.

It wasn’t tough to see why. She captivated the Monday morning class with her tips, techniques and sense of humor.

“Wet it. Shake it. Touch,” she said while demonstrating a brush technique. “Wet it. Shake it. Touch.”

And she also invoked an old cheerleader technique.

“Push it back. Push it back. Waaaay back,” she said in her best cheerleader voice.

Diane Fein of the Village of Sunset Pointe used her iPad to shoot photos of Holman demonstrating the technique.

Likewise, Marge McQueston of the Village of Santiago shot photos with her digital camera.

“She’s really very good,” McQueston said.

Holman’s workshop continues for the rest of the week.

Several well-known art instructors will be teaching winter workshops in the weeks ahead.
