Angela Gregory of the Villages of St. James easily sums up how she feels about nine burglaries over roughly the past two months in The Villages.

“It’s rotten,” she said.

She recently joined the The Villages Straight Shooters gun club. She has gone through all of the training to have her concealed weapon permit.

“I want to feel safe,” she said.

The Straight Shooters drew a large number of residents to its Thursday evening meeting at SeaBreeze Recreation Center.

Villages Straight Shooters President Terry Marksberry referenced the recent Villages’ burglaries in his opening remarks.

But the bulk of the program was spent on gun safety.

Villager Floyd Dunstan discussed home firearm safety and the responsibilities of gun owners.

The Straight Shooters in The Villages was started more than three years ago. The club has more than 260 members and typically grow 20-30 members evey month. The club has an active firearm education program for Villagers and sponsors numerous shooting and other events in an average month.

The club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month at SeaBreeze Recreation Center.

“We have numerous NRA Certified Insructors with decades of experience teaching the full range of NRA offered course material,” Marksberry said.
