The HOT teams all stay hot in the frigid weather.
 
Giants 10 – Braves 2
The Giants stay tied on the top with a 4 – 1 record.  The Giants committed 2 errors, but held the Braves to 9 hits for the game, and only 2 runs in the 5th inning.  Bob Dulac was 3 for 3 and Ron Rowe added 3 hits for winning pitcher John Ashby.  Manny Sanchez and sub Harold Holiman had home runs for the Braves.
Nationals 10 – Rockies 8
The odd innings proved to be the winners for the Nationals.  They put 3 runs on the board in the first, third and fifth, then added a run in the 6th.  Both teams had 14 hits, but sub pitcher Jim Carmon got the win for the Nats.  Norm O’Brien had the hot bat for the Nats with a 3 for 3 game including a triple.  John Arango added a 3 run HR.  Tom Guinan had a double and triple for the Rockies.
Mets 16 – D-Backs 12
The Mets got their first win of the season by outslugging the D-Backs with 25 hits to 14.  Chuck Tomney led the Mets with 4 hits.  Four other players had 3 hits each.  Duke Dutkiewicz got the win.  Frank Pierce and Digger Lines were 3 for 4 for the D-Backs.

Cards 20 – Pirates 9
The Pirates held a 7 – 3 lead, but the Cards bats woke up in the bottom of the 3rd with 5 runs and 5 more the next 2 innings.  John Barrett’s 4 for 4 performance helped get Ken Semmel the win for the Cards.  Mike Hyott, Duane Miller, Roger Duncan and Harry VanDyke had 3 hits each.  Bob Cramer was 4 for 4 for the Pirates.

Phillies 20 – Dodgers 13
The Phillies improved their record to 4 – 1 by jumping out to a 13 – 2 lead after 3, but the Dodgers outscored the Phillies 9 – 1 in the 4th & 5th.  The Phillies put up 5 in the last 2 innings and held the Dodgers to 2 runs.  Gary Arnold got the win for the Phillies and had 3 hits.    Dan McPherson was 3 for 3 and Bob Strolin added a double and 2 triples for the Phillies.  Dick Rondo had 3 hits also.  Bruce Forester and Len Griffin went 4 for 4 for the Dodgers.
Astros 14 – Brewers 6
The Astros took advantage of the Brewers 6 errors and played solid defense in securing the win for pitcher Ray Beaupre.  Don Mulneix led the Astros with 4 hits.  Joe DeGeorge added 3 hits.  Tom Ramberg had 3 hits for the Brewers.
Cubs 23 – Reds 7 (6 innings)
The Cubs put a mercy rule on the Reds with 27 hits to the Reds 12 and walked away with the win despite sloppy defense by both teams.  The Cubs had 4 errors and the Reds had 5.  Bob Fuhst was 4 for 4, helping winning pitcher Tom Gilewski for the Cubs.  Five other players had 3 hits each.  Three players had 2 hits each for the Reds.
Marlins 15 – Royals 11
Marlins pitcher Bob Fleming improved their record to 4 – 1 and tied at the top.  The Royals defense couldn’t hold down the hot bats of the Marlins.  David Blanford led the Marlins with 4 hits while 4 other players had 3 hits each.  Alan Jackson had 3 hits for the Royals.
Angles 18 – Padres 13
The Angels Ken Myers went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and a triple and winning pitcher Rick Stenson added 3 hits.  Billy Farrow, Denis Hodge and Ron Nichols also had 3 hits for the Angels.  The Angels improved their record to 4 – 1.  Jerry Nugent and Barry Jones were 3 for 3 with a HR each for the Padres.  Tim Carroll added 3 hits.
