Mayor Ruth Kussard threw out the first pitch Saturday morning to open the season for Lady Lake Little League.

There will be 23 teams made up of 300 children taking part in Little League in a season that will run through June.

Two of the teams this season will be made up completely of girls, the Hawks and the Pink Sox.

Eleven-year-old Jack Musgrave led the opening prayer and Villages High School student Samantha Karoly sang a rousing National Anthem.

Villager Steve Norton, a enthusiastic member of Red Sox Nation, caught the opening pitch from the mayor, a lefty.

“It’s great to see everyone out here for this,” Norton said.

Mayor Kussard, a Village of La Reynalda resident, thanked all of the coaches, volunteers, players, parents and grandparents, for making Little League a community tradition.
