Members of The Villages Philharmonic Orchestra Guild and Maestro Pasquale Valerio were delighted to see a capacity crowd come out in support of the orchestra’s annual fundraiser, dubbed “An Affair to Remember,” Thursday evening – and the organization’s 10th anniversary. More than 200 Villagers and friends, decked out in formal finery, enjoyed dinner and dancing to the Music Mixx Dance Band at the combined ballrooms of the Savannah Center.
In addition to the musical program and warm camaraderie, dozens of valuable gifts, including several overseas trips, were distributed by live auction and silent auction.
“Most first-time concert attendees are amazed and pleased at the caliber of music produced by this orchestra,” said resident Bill Jamieson.
“Their wide repertoire of classics and pops fill theater seats. Most every performance is a sellout. We want to do as much as we can to support this fine art form.”
The Villages Community Philharmonic orchestra began in 2003 to provide Central Floridians in The Villages and surrounding areas with the opportunity to hear local musicians perform the music of master composers. Under the inspired leadership of Maestro Pasquale Valerio, volunteers play alongside professional musicians from Florida symphony orchestras to educate and entertain appreciative area listeners. A few selected area music students are also given a chance to participate as well.
